The features shown below are the main elements of risr/advance. They are presented in approximately the order in which they relate to each other.
- You have very fine grained control over what each of your users is able to do within risr/advance. This is done by creating a set of roles, defining a set of permissions for each role and assigning roles to your users. Users can be assigned multiple roles and will simply receive their aggregated set of permissions.
Note: Job titles/roles within your organisation may not directly align with the roles defined within the system. When setting up the system roles, we suggest focussing on the functional access the user needs rather than their job title. For example, someone with the title 'Team Lead' may not need elevated system permissions if their responsibilities don't require it.

Once you have created your roles you can then begin assigning these to your users. In order for your users to be able to login and begin to record entries in risr/advance they will need an account. All of these accounts are managed from the users list. From here you can edit their profile information, view a summary of that user's progress and add content to their portfolio.

Some people will need the ability to review the progress of other users. Others may need the ability to manage all users in their particular region. These are just two examples of why you may like your users to be connected together. Connecting can be done on a one-to-one basis or dynamically as part of a hierarchy and can also be time limited. Hierarchies are defined as a relation.

Creating blueprints provide a way for you to create structured lists of things which can be used across the system. Examples of these may be your curriculum, learning outcomes or final training grade. These blueprints can then be featured in your events so that you can track and report on similar content. You can be sure it is always the same no matter which event it is inside.

All content is added through way of creating events which can be thought of as filling in a form. You have complete control over the templates for these events which are called event types. Event types dictate the content which your users can add to their portfolio and are version controlled to allow you to make instant changes that are tracked over time.

Once you have created your event types then your users can begin adding content. This is done by creating new events. Events can contain a workflow whereby users can be invited to respond or provide feedback for someone. All events created are accessible from the timeline.

You have control over all your data within risr/advance. Everything that is captured can be extracted and presented inside reports. You can create your own report templates which allow you to specify exactly what you want to show and how you want it to display. These templates can then be distributed to your users to run with one click, featured on users' dashboards to display summary information or embedded within events in order to automatically populate information whilst your users are filling in forms.

Goals can be set for your users to work towards. These can contain very specific targets to which they can link elements of their portfolio in order to demonstrate progress. You can also give the ability to create goals to your users themselves. This allows them to complement their 'official' targets with those that may be more personal. Goals are set for users by way of creating an event containing them onto their timeline.

Users need to know exactly what they are working towards whenever they login to risr/advance. A way of providing them this information in a structured way is to customise what they see on their dashboard. Different dashboards can be presented to different user roles to show each person the most relevant information to them. Summary reports, information on current goals, curricula and announcements can all be featured as tiles on the dashboard to provide an overview of what is going on.
